In the following,
"RDC scheme" refers to our product RDC cumulus parameterization / 3D-analysis scheme
presented on the website
rdctheory.cloud.
The RDC scheme is copyrighted by jos <jos@kaleidoscheme.com>.
Thank you very much for your interest in our RDC research project.
We intend to protect our rights and promote RDC research
by signing RDC scheme license contracts with collaborators.
On this page you will find the latest information on the policy
and schedule of the RDC scheme license contracts.
However,
the details may be updated in order to promote RDC research with better efficiency.
We welcome your questions and requests.
Priority Policy
-
Our first priority is to advance RDC research.
First of all, it is important to show that the RDC mechanism is valid
also in a 3D time-developing atmosphere.
Financial terms are secondary
and we are willing to be flexible,
especially with early collaborators.
Basic Policy
As will be shown below,
there are a few types of RDC scheme license contracts,
but the basic policy is the same regardless of the type of contract.
The following is a list of some excerpts
that users should know before applying a contract.
-
The contract is an annual subscription and cannot be cancelled during the year.
After one year from the date of the contract,
the contract is automatically terminated and ceases to be effective.
If the user wishes to continue using the RDC scheme,
a new contract must be made after one year.
-
The RDC scheme license may not be transferred or sold by the user to a third party.
If the user wishes to transfer or sell a product using the RDC scheme to a third party,
that third party must sign a new agreement individually with us
for the purpose of using the RDC scheme as a new user.
-
The users can implement the RDC scheme and perform the RDC parameter tuning.
We also allow the users to use the RDC scheme in non-commercial activities,
such as reporting to academic conferences or submitting to scientific journals,
provided that the users indicate that they used the RDC scheme in the form we specify,
denoting the contract ID provided for each user and a short comment.
-
We know from experience that many people do not understand RDC.
When they misuse the RDC scheme, we have to correct them.
When we ask,
the user must provide enough information for us to verify
that the RDC scheme development is being done correctly.
If we find a misunderstanding or misuse,
we will provide scientific and logical reasons to correct it.
We have the right to unilaterally terminate the permission of any user who,
in our judgment,
does not comply with our request above without providing scientific and logical reasons.
This is a defensive condition to prevent the deliberate exclusion of RDC
by those who consider it undesirable,
which is unfortunately what we have experienced.
Otherwise, of course, we are willing to continue our friendly cooperation.
When the exception applies,
we may remove the user's name and publicize the issue on our website or elsewhere
in order to allow the public to objectively determine
that the user's misunderstanding or misuse is unwarranted.
-
The contract does not include any inspection of RDC research activities,
but only of the research content.
Once a contract is signed,
therefore,
it is also possible for you
to continue to retain the right to use the RDC scheme
while monitoring the progress of the RDC scheme development by others,
without any RDC scheme development at all by yourself.
In this case, by providing financial assistance,
you would be participating in the RDC scheme development.
Naturally,
you will receive the same benefits
that other users will enjoy in the future.
Remember, however,
that it depends on the terms of each users's agreement
whether you can use the results of other users' development.
-
If there is more than one contract,
we will discuss with the users,
whether or not to share development information,
and whether or not to share the workload,
among different users.
We will provide many options,
such as sharing information with all users,
not sharing information at all,
or sharing information only with those users who agree,
after individual consultation.
It is possible to contribute to the development of RDC
if one can perform partial development of each part,
without necessarily having to perform the entire development process.
For example,
if users follow
the implementation steps we suggested for parameter tuning,
the tasks are
-
to calculate the equilibrium atmosphere using a cloud-resolving model
(At the stage of building the cumulus parameterization,
a small computational area is sufficient and,
of course, a global model is not necessary.
Rather, a simple model is preferable,
as it is easier to understand the physical processes occurring within the model.)
-
to partition the whole horizontal 2D calculation area into RDC compartments
based on the distribution of radiative cooling rate
using the contour-extraction technique,
-
to solve the 2D RDC boundary value problem for each partitioned RDC compartment,
etc.
After each of these tasks is performed by a group with expertise in each of these areas,
the results can be brought together to perform RDC analysis
to determine the limiting parameter L1 (either a constant or a function)
and finally complete the RDC parameterization.
If you already have one of such skills,
please consider joining the RDC scheme development.
-
Names of applicants will not be disclosed to the public.
During the negotiation period,
the applicant's name will not be disclosed to other applicants
without the applicant's consent.
Only those who have signed the contract will have their names
made public after the contract is signed.
For those users who do not wish to have their names made public,
we will consider not actively publicizing their names,
but in Estonia,
which boasts the world's highest transparency in company operations,
this is probably not possible.
In the case of contracts that may be signed by individuals,
consideration shall be given to the handling of subscriber names,
such as the use of nicknames.
Types of Contracts
At present,
there are two types of contracts for the RDC scheme;
RDC Follower and RDC Special Contracts.
-
RDC General Contract
-
RDC Follower Contract
Currently, all RDC General Contracts are RDC Follower contracts.
We will negotiate contract terms with each applicant.
Please note that the contract fee for the users of this kind of contract
may be determined specifically according to the
risks
of each user.
-
RDC Special Contract
RDC Special Contracts are for individuals or small groups of individuals,
who are aware of creative approaches to the RDC scheme that we are not aware of,
or who have the imagination and technical skills to further the development of RDC.
We would like to offer them contracts on favorable terms
and expect them to contribute to RDC research.
However, the contract review process will be extremely rigorous.
Please note that we do not have any funds at this time,
so we are unable to assist with research expenses.
Screening Criteria
Below are the screening criteria that will be applied to applicants.
Depending on the results of the review,
the contract cost may be higher for certain users,
or the contract itself may be rejected,
in order to manage the contract risk.
-
For all kinds of contract:
-
Is there a risk that the user or its higher-level organization
may not respect the copyright of the RDC scheme?
-
Is there a risk that the user or its higher-level organization
may break an amicable RDC contractual relationship?
-
Is there a risk that the user may lack the qualities
of integrity in the RDC research and development?
-
For Special Contracts:
-
Uniqueness and usefulness of the research perspective
-
Possibility of completing the study
-
At the time of contracting,
a few achievable goals are set,
and if, after the contract is signed,
it is found that these goals have not been achieved
and that there is no understanding or enthusiasm for the RDC scheme,
the contract will be unilaterally terminated.
Declaration of Intent to Contract
Please send an e-mail to the Kaleidoscheme Office
<
office@kaleidoscheme.com>
following the format described below,
indicating your willingness to sign a contract for the RDC scheme usage rights.
The Kaleidoscheme Office will negotiate a contract directly with you via e-mail,
only if you have expressed your willingness to do so.
Please note that no contract will be made without a declaration of intent,
and no contract will be made through any other party.
At the bottom of the list, you can find a
text
which can be copied and pasted to your mail.
-
Be sure to include "statement of intent for RDC scheme license contract"
in the title of your e-mail.
-
In the body of the e-mail, include the following items.
-
Please write
classification:
and then one of the following to describe your application.
-
general ... for a declaration of intent to a General (Follower) Contract
-
